Compounding

compounding

In the early 1900’s the vast majority of all medications were the result of pharmaceutical compounding. Over the years and with the growth of large scale drug manufacturing, compounding pharmacies became less common and more highly specialized. When large scale manufacturers formulate prescription medications, they aim to suit a large number of people, but this often means that these formulations are incompatible with certain patients. With that in mind, a compounding pharmacy such as ours aims to create new formulations of your medication to better suit the needs of our patients (including children)

BENEFITS OF COMPOUNDING

compounding
Changing the dosage form of your medication—If you cannot swallow a tablet or capsule, we can compound your medication into a liquid, rectal suppository, or transdermal gel to carry medicine through the skin.
Reducing side effects—Often times, applying a medication topically, significantly reduces side effects such as stomach upset/ulcers, drowsiness, nausea, etc..
Eliminating unwanted additives—If you cannot tolerate your medication due to dyes or fillers such as lactose, sugar or alcohol, we can eliminate these components.
Providing commercially unavailable, unformulated or discontinued medications.
Flavoring a medication in order to make it more palatable.
